5 Fall Home Cleaning Tips

Now that the days are getting shorter and the weather is a bit cold outside, it's much more pleasant to stay indoors than on the patio or in the backyard.

However, since you spent almost the entire Spring and Summer outdoors, you may have forgotten about some cleaning that needs to be done. It’s time to prepare all your warmest clothes, check where the umbrellas are, get rid of all the sports gear, among so many other things.

So, how can you start cleaning your home and prepare your garden for the coldest period of the year? Here are 5 Fall home cleaning tips.

#1: Your Pantry:

While you may have many different rooms at your home that need to be cleaned, a good place to start is your pantry. Make sure that you remove all the boxes and cans from the shelves and clean them thoroughly. Take some time to vacuum since crumbs and dust can really build up.

Before you put all your items on the shelves again, make sure that you open and check if everything is ok. If any item expired, just toss it out.

#2: Flip Your Mattress:

One of the places that most people forget about cleaning is the mattress. You just have no idea about how much dirt and dust it can accumulate. It's customary to flip your mattress in the Fall.

In case your mattress has a pillow-top, just rotate 180 degrees. This will help your mattress to last more since you are preventing body impressions that can lead to  slumps.

In order to clean your mattress, make sure that you sprinkle it with baking soda and then use a vacuum cleaner. The baking soda helps neutralize the odors.

#3: Organizing Your Closet:

Yes, it's time to remove all your Summer clothes from your closet or wardrobe and replace them with the cold weather ones. Make sure that you check everything you have to ensure it is in good condition and still fits. One of the things that you should do is to wash all your warm clothes. Dust can accumulate anywhere.

But it's not only your clothes that need to be replaced. Your shoes need to be as well. In case you just have too many, you can use a shoe storage rack. With a capacity up to 50 pairs, you'll have everything that you need.

#4: Smoke Detectors:

Before the winter arrives, make sure that your smoke detectors are working well. Make sure that you replace the batteries on both smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and that you clean them as well. The truth is that when dust accumulates, they will tend to not perform as well.

If your smoke detectors are more than 10 years old, it's definitely time to replace them.

#5: Upholstered Surfaces:

One of the things that are very important to do when cleaning your home is to make sure that you vacuum all the upholstered surfaces. Dust tends to accumulate and you don't even notice it. Don't forget the carpets, curtains, sofa, and even chairs.
