Bronze pxb006 Joined on 6/23/2009 Posts: 48		I've used PlayOn for about a year and it works great. Internet and media server streaming both are very smooth, as long as your network as the bandwidth. My network is wireless N, and I wouldn't recommend that you use it on anything slower. The only other issue is that FWD doesn't work when streaming videos from PC. But I believe this is an issue will all similar applications.

Beware, though - When streamed from older PC (Specs. near the bottom of the system requirements), Playon works poorly. Much better with newer computers. Can't fast-forward or rewind. Definitely beats shelling out $$ for netflixs-specific box, though

kwsheeha1 Joined on 1/30/2008 Posts: 1		Well worth the money. It's easy to use. I have a wirelss G network and everything streams just fine. I am sure you need a good Internet download speed. I highly recommend. If it were not for sports, I would get rid of my Directv and just use this.

If you have XBOX Live, this streaming is included and takes the PC out of the loop. That means your wireless router can be a slower one such as B or G. 54Mbs is plenty when your Internet service is only 4Mbps or so.

Diamond RichBoston Joined on 7/17/2008 Posts: 116		According to PlayOn's FAQ: "If you're using a wireless network for your PC or device, especially if it's on 802.11g, you are likely to experience problems. PlayOn requires a lot of bandwidth on the home network to pass over the MPEG video files to the device. Anything that may interrupt or slow down that video feed will result in an unhappy device, and you'll see excessive buffering." Sure enough, when I put the PS3 on a wired connection, quality improved significantly, though I was still vexed by frequent freezes and claims of "corrupted data." This is perhaps related to the "excessive buffering" mentioned above. Things might clear up further if the PC rather than the console gets a wired connection, which for some might mean finding a new home for the modem and router.

This program is for people who already have a DLNA device connected to their TV and already have a computer with internet connection and wireless network sitting somewhere else in the house. Take a look at Boxee (free!) if you want the PC next to the TV. You can't reliably stream 1080p video over an 802.11g wireless network if there is any other traffic on that network. Boxee solves that problem by driving the TV directly from the computer's graphics card.
