And you save a lot in comparison so can be a great option to get more size for same price as the smaller ones new. I always feel good about the ones from Vizio.

Silver BFSDogMom Joined on 3/19/2009 Posts: 28		Regarding refurbs, it is totally a personal choice, if you tend to be conservative and want assurance it will absolutely work, then don't risk it and only buy new. Yugster makes it very clear that not all of their stuff is "new". I am a refurb devotee, because to me, price is most important. I have researched the "facts" about refurbs and find that they are often labeled as such just because people had buyers remorse, never opened the package, and brought them back, but they cannot be sold as "new" once they have left the store. With a refurb, the process is typically that 100% of them are tested before being returned to market. With "new", there is an assembly line, and only a percentage of each production is actually tested to make sure that "batch" made is ok. You might get one out of that batch that is not ok. My first refurb item was in 2002, the Palm IIIc (not from Yugster, LOL). It was the HOT ticket item of the day, and buying refurb was the only way I could afford it, and the only way to get it for less than full retail. No problems with that, and since I have moved on to a refurb Sharp Aquos TV, refurb home goods, and most recently a refurb netbook and numerous other items. The only item I've ever had a problem with is the netbook, and I was able to find someone via Craigslist who was far more techno than me who researched their Boards and found out the BIOS issue and now it is fixed for $40. On the other hand, I can tell you horror stories of BRAND NEW items going bad within a month of getting them and having to deal with a DELL computer, Gateway computer, Gigantic 200 lb Sony Rear Projection TV and other items that needed my time to deal with "warranty" issues. Sorry for the novela, just thought I'd share my expereiences for those of you "afraid" of refurbs or that may have had a bad experience. Bronze LxJLthr Joined on 9/8/2009 Posts: 9		Only thing that bugs me about this TV, and other "budget" big screens, is its contrast ratio. I went from a 10,000:1 on my old LCD to 100,000:1 on my new Sony and it made a HUGE difference (deeper blacks in darker scenes without loss of fine details in shadows and other dark areas of the picture). I would say that unless you are a bargain hunter, getting this as second TV or care more about size-to-dollar aspect (and not the picture quality), I would strongly recommend saving up for a little bit better spec TV.

djfatben Joined on 11/14/2008 Posts: 6		Out of curiosity LxJLthr, did you go from LCD to Plasma or was it LCD to LCD? If that Sony's an LCD that contrast ratio is pretty astounding. In general LCD TVs look better in the store and high light environments and plasmas are better in a darker room, which consequently means they usually have better backs and so better contrast.

BFSDogMom: I don't know was that just me but most of the time I bought refurbs were pretty used up. Or I'm just the unlucky one. Jayrookie: Archos is a real rip-off company. They sell cheap devices and rip you off by making you buy every plug-in for the device. As I read many complains on the internet. They do have cool and cheap products, buy you might end up spending more than you expect. Also, the refurb i got from them was a totally used up media player, I just don't know what to say when I got it... Just stay out of Archos products. Yug: I think you guys should stop doing business with them since this might affects Yug's credit.

I viewed as many of my potential purchases in higher end stores' "theater/home setting" rooms and had mime professionally configured after purchase as well, so it works great in light/dark environments...STRONGLY recommend both things even if you buying online. I will agree with you on the inherent differences in plasma/LCDs, which are more noticeable in each type's "budget" models. With higher end models differences become a LOT less (especially properly configured), but the price also goes up. Like I said in the 1st post, it all depends on the consumer's need. But if people are indeed looking for "full gorgeous HD 1080p picture" as the primary character, they need to take this type of models' claims with a grain of salt. You do get what you pay for.
