Diamond ldsmom7566 Joined on 6/16/2008 Posts: 82		Sorry for the following MasterYug :-) In my own opinion this ice scraper is a HUGE WASTE OF MONEY!! We own one exactly like this one. It does NOT work as it says it will. Unless you want to stand in the cold for several minutes with the scraper in one place to even begin thinking about melting any actual ice, then this is NOT the item for you. Now, for very thin FROST (NOT ICE) it will work just like any other scraper. The electric heater portion of it does not do a thing to make it easier or faster. In addition, it is MUCH WEAKER in strength than a regular ice scraper. If you apply too much pressure to it, it will break and crack... ESSPECIALLY if you keep it in your car and it gets cold over night. Because of the material it is made with, when it gets cold it gets extremely fragile, and brittle. My advice from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE is to stay very far away from this item. Hope this helps. (*MasterYug Replies* First, no apologies necessary, your opinion is valid -- it's the whole reason we selected this model over several others - the build quality. We saw some really cheap ones that would do as described, we wanted to be sure ours could stand up to the rigors of chipping away at the ice -- there is a big difference between this "Pro" model and some others we saw that were made poorly.)

YUG Team MasterYug Joined on 6/7/2006 Posts: 1920		We looked at the same model you see on the other site - there's no comparison - the one we're selling from Tech Tools has far better build quality - there's a reason that other one is free - think of the cost they'd be buying it for to make money and how light it must be. You can always find cheaper, but on an item like this you want some real construction value. We only end up makign $1.50 on each one sold - so you can figure what the cost is from there - should give you an indication of the quality vs. something free. Hope that helps.

Diamond ldsmom7566 Joined on 6/16/2008 Posts: 82		Just a couple more 'thoughts' I had. To be fair, we do not own the 'keyhole de-icer probe', so we do not know how well they may or may not work. However, since you must be able to insert the probe into your lock BEFORE it begins to work, then there really doesn't seem to be a real use or need for it. Because the problem you have MOST of the time with any frozen car door lock is when ice or snow is COVERING the hole and keeping you from being able to insert your key into it the first place. SO, IT STANDS TO REASON THEN, THAT IF YOU CANNOT INSERT YOUR KEY, THEN YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO INSERT THE PROBE EITHER! THEREFORE MAKING IT PRETTY USELESS IN MY BOOK. As to my previous comments about the ice scraper being VERY WEAK and not working very well at all.. if you notice, even the manufacturer's own picture of it (when you click on it for detail) shows it ONLY BEING USED FOR A LIGHT DUSTING OF SNOW....NOT ICE! Even the company itself will not show it in the same picture with any ice or frost in it. Like they say, 'a picture is worth a thousand words'.

The previous comments are just from our own experience, and my own opinions of these kinds of scrapers in general.

If it works like mine, a couple of AAs are just enough to warm up the metal strip (high resistance turns electrical energy into thermal). Yes, it won't fit in at first, but keep holding the metal strip against the ice. Ross, no offense, but you should have started the car anyway to let the engine start warming up...
